NX-Situ Remediation offers a number of services, as outlined below:

Remediation Practitioners

NX-Situ Remediation (NX-Situ) have extensive experience applying remediation technologies to treat soil and groundwater.  NX-Situ has worked on over 100 in-situ remediation projects in Australia and even more in the US.  We have closed 35 in-situ remediation sites in Australia and the US.  We have designed, commissioned and operated the following in-situ technologies throughout Australia and the US:

  • Groundwater Recovery and Treatment (trenches and wells)
  • Air Sparging / Biosparging
  • Soil Vapour  Extraction  (SVE)  with  thermal  and  catalytic emission control
  • Groundwater Recovery and Treatment
  • Multi-phase extraction (MPE)
  • In-situ Chemical Oxidation (ISCO)
  • In-situ Chemical Reduction (ISCR)
  • Solvent-enhanced ISCO and MPE
  • Bioremediation
  • Monitored Natural Attenuation

Petroleum Market

The application of biodegradable solvent to enhance the current practice of hydrocarbon remediation in Australia is quite effective.  Through work with our technology partner we’ve observed how a biodegradable solvent has mobilised petroleum hydrocarbons when little or no light non-aqueous phase liquid (LNAPL) was previously present.  The following graph shows the increase in occurrence of LNAPL at a site – from LNAPL in one well to twelve after the application of the biodegradable solvent at a site in WA:

The solvent can be used with chlorinated and petroleum hydrocarbons and a follow-up technology of in-situ chemical oxidation (ISCO) can be applied.  The combination of the two technologies is called solvent-enhanced ISCO or SE-ISCO.  NX-Situ has worked with the inventor of the SE-ISCO technology, Mr Doug Carvel of MECx, since 2001 and continues to work with them under a prior art arrangement to comply with an international patent.

ISCO and SE-ISCO

Denton Mauldin brought ISCO with sodium persulfate to Australia, which he applied at 10 sites in NSW, QLD, VIC and WA.  Denton has also applied SE-ISCO at sites in NSW, VIC and WA.  NX-Situ also owns and has been trained in the use of one of two SE-ISCO bench trial columns in the world that can be used to optimise dosing of solvent, oxidants and activators for full-scale application.  The bench trial columns are pictured below:

SE-ISCO is a very specialised technology that has been successfully applied 25 times globally and has included only Denton Mauldin’s or MECx’s involvement.
